🏀Unrivaled Basketball: Top 10 Tips To Know | 23 Relevance | 8 months ago | Faith Black | Zuri Art & Gardens
In 2024, I too was like, "What is this Unrivaled thing that I keep hearing about?" Well I'm thrilled that I listened. I do not recall any athletes ever establishing their own professional league. Cofounded by WNBA players Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart, the Unrivaled Women's Basketball League is an unprecedented endeavor. As I watch and enjoy the games I find myself asking, "How in the world did they come up with this amazing idea and implement it in just 2 years? How did they get the investors, come up with team names, choose Miami as the destination ...

... been behind on posting but I know for sure I'm gonna add a drooping rose as the image for this post 😥 Are the Unrivaled (and WNBA) referees qualified? The referees are killing me. It's just that women are very competitive and fiery like me, lol, but I remember WNBA players and coaches having lots of evidence regarding how inconsistent and terrible the referees are and it unfortunately has to be the same frustrating situation here. Something needs to be done regarding these bad referees! It does start to interfere with not only the flow of the game ...

... all I love the players-the amazing, interesting Black women, I swear they need their own reality show. And of course Unrivaled was such a joy for me because it doesn't have the history and hateful "fans" that have ruined the WNBA. Why I Took a Break from the WNBA Actually also, the WNBA is ruining the WNBA by not protecting its players from hate and abuse. Not a very well run business that cares about its players-I noticed this with the Brittney Griner situation. The rise of the Unrivaled Women's Basketball League has been a bright light in a storm of exhausting, racially charged narratives surrounding the WNBA. For the past year or so, the twisted media has downplayed and dismissed the brilliance of Black women in Basketball—all while unprecedently exaggerating everything about Caitlin Clark, as if it was her life's calling to single-handedly save a sports league. American history is built upon and riddled with this same exact type of dangerous pattern of manipulation that elevates one group over another—not bas ...

Found this old post from my FB business page, December 2022. Google had a graphic on the home page like how they are honoring an icon, and they had the person embedded in their Google image. I saw it was a Black man with a video game and they actually had it where you could temporarily play some games right there in the Google window. I tried to avoid reading more about him because I know I always see something that bothers me as it relates to race. Very difficult to read anything without there being something negative said about Black people, even if you're reading about a Black genius. Ugh, sigh. So anyway, I found a blog responsible for some of the content and wrote this long post, which they didn't post...which is fine! ----------------- It was in response to the (lies) statements about Black culture being the reason why so few Black people go into the sciences vs. sports.🙄🙄 Sigh)). ---------------------------- December 2022 I have discovered Jerry Lawson through Google’s Doodle. WOW. Absolutely amazing, yet geniuses who are Black is actually not unusual. So before reading his story I knew that he would be a genius above geniuses. I was hoping he were still alive to see the recognition by Google. Since Google is used by billions, I was like he can finally feel that he’s getting his recognition. Sad he passed, but I hope that his children are thankful that he’s getting his recognition. I have to say, even the Basketball guys can be geniuses too. Genius is not limited to engineering and science. When some Black children turn away from academics and turn only to sports and entertainment that is due to TRAUMA and LIES from adults and society telling them that Black is inferior. Wanting to “only play sports” is not CULTURAL- that is trauma. As a former teacher, volunteer, and substitute teacher I promise people that they can go into the Blackest schools and if they take time to talk to the kids, they will realize they have no fear, they have adventure, they have dreams, and they have talent beyond this world. The tragedy is when adults because of racism and anti-blackness, crush these children’s dreams and kill their souls in the progress. So the narrative that Black kids don’t like science, is racist. And that narrative actually CREATES a fear in children who don’t have the solid rock support system like Lawson and me had. I fell in love with science in the 8th grade. Like completely fell in love with it. I set my eyes on being an MD, then OD, then whatever type of doctor. Never for a second did I think that my ghetto cultural self did not belong in those type of intense academic environments. On the other hand, I also didn't think that there was something special about me, a Black girl from the ghetto now sitting and being trained by world renown scientists. There wasn't anything special about me in comparison to my peers who were also from the same type of neighborhood. What was special was the fact that I just had heaven-sent parents, a supportive neighborhood, supportive other family members, and teachers who never ever said that my skin color made me less than. I realize that I am an anomaly. But not because I am a girl from the ghetto who almost became a doctor. The brightest, most creative minds have historically always been found in the poor, Black areas. Only when society realizes it can PROFIT from such genius, are certain Black people allowed to rise through unscathed. So the small amount of Black people in math and science fields is absolutely not because of culture, but again, TRAUMA, as well as society, universities, companies and so on only seeing Black bodies and minds as something they can PROFIT off of. Never is a Black genius seen as human, or Black people seen as people, but as PROFIT. Profits who remain hidden from society, once these industries make their billions from a Black genius the genius remains hidden. It’s the same ole story over and over again. So again, depending on many many factors, some geniuses make it through okay but let’s not ever ignore the amount of Black geniuses and just your regular, every hardworking Black people who are not geniuses, let’s not be dismissive of the inhumane assaults and tortures that stop many of them in their paths. Take a person who is average yet is a hard worker- they still deserve to go to work or school without being harassed. Racism is not something that Black people, especially children with dreams, should be expected to rise above like they are superhuman. It is inhumane. White supremacy is a never-ending powerful, practically supernatural force that permeates and poisons every single fabric of society on this Earth. It’s centuries old and is the foundation of modern society. Just because some Black people are able to have those “nice white people” in their corners and rise through their career fields, doesn’t mean that is how society functions. And that burden of change is not on the kids with Basketball dreams. They should be left alone and left to dream in peace actually. The criticisms should be on the numerous people, yes people of all colors, all adults in authority figure positions, who make it their daily ritual to keep Black children from dreaming, achieving, and believing in themselves. Again, unless said Black child is some type of “favorite” that people can see a profit off of. Racism is terrorism, it’s genocide, and should never been seen as just a footnote when it comes to exploring why some Black children choose certain careers, or why they are the “only Black” in highly respected fields. First we’re only supposedly 12% of the population, so just that right there will often make someone the “only Black” in many areas but Black people need to stop thinking they are the “good Black” or “special Black” because they are the only ones in a whitewashed university, companies, programs, and so on. We don’t need more Black children to become degreed scientists or engineers, or any special job title that’s praised by how much whiteness can profit from it. How about just more Black children allowed to be, to exist, to experience…to be exactly whatever it is they want to be in this world that doesn’t deserve them. My daughter is an artist, she has been since age 3. Thank you for posting this if it posts…

Unrivaled Basketball League: Phantom vs Laces Laces have their main ladies back from injury: Alyssa Thomas, Jackie Young, and Tiffany HayesI think they're back to full staff again First shot in the game goes to Kayla McBride of the Laces, a 3! It took until 3rd quarter for both teams to catch on 🔥. I was like, they're woke now. I've been waiting on where I can use that word for this site...Woke Woke Woke! 😁 (Cause Lord knows I hate what "they" have done to the word so best thing to do, is stay in control of what the word means for me) Natisha Hiedeman hit that fade away 3 and then Jackie Young of the Laces answered right back. I was like, oh they woke now. Winning game shot goes to Kayla McBride, a 3, and she did a cute little dance afterwards lol. I love when they celebrate like that Game 2: Lunar Owls vs Rose -Potential heartstopper for me, I'm not going to get my hopes up high1st shot goes to Chelsea GrayLet's just enjoy the game 🖤💙💜Man please, I'm nervous lol 🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀Well the Lunar Owls won. I was so glad to see Azura Stevens back, and that would be the only highlight as a Rose fan.Chelsea finished with 10 points; tough games happenAngel had a double double, but did get in foul troubleBrittney Sykes from what I can remember, was on fire They just never got into a flow even though they kept the game close for a while. The Lunar Owls eventually took off I'm glad that everyone stayed calm since these women are hotheaded like me, lol, I get it. Lunar Owls were madt about that previous, shocking loss to the Rose and certainly by the after game theatrics, but I'm glad they didn't feed into....you know, all the very negative things out there in social world that I am adamant about avoiding.I do briefly scroll on IG, I 100% stay out the comments!!!!, but even with a brief scroll I can quickly see what people are talking about, and people do make too big a deal out of nothing and get too emotional over matters that are not life and death and certainly matters that won't affect their lives It's a sport, tempers flare, the ladies are competitive, sometimes mistakes are made in the heat of the moment and that's that. No need for anything extra. These ladies are all extremely likeable...even though I root against the Lunar Owls, that's simply because they are too dominant and they win toooooooo much, too easily. I like them all as individuals and in fact Courtney Williams is one of my favorite players Rooting against the Lunar Owls is just simply me as a bitter fan I have never seen Napheesa Collier show any type of emotion, ever. I guess she's kind of like Jalen Hurts in that regards. I was briefly scrolling on IG and saw a slow motion of how she was fussing at Angel Reese after she hit the winning shot. And I'm like, so what?? I stayed out the comments, and I think I might have just closed IG because I only want to see what the players themselves post. I don't care what "fans" think, I don't care anything about anyone's negative ass posts and making a big deal out of emotions that people have shown in sports since forever. Anyway, I'm still tremendously enjoying the league and am grateful I've managed to stay away from Google/social media any media and keep all that noise & hatred out my life as it has already ruined so much for me; and I am just purely enjoying an event for what it is and what I see. I don't need to know what anyone online thinks.Just like how it was back in the day before social media....I would just watch the damn event and live life A League of Their Own Unrivaled Basketball: Top 10 Tips to Know

Rose and Vinyl.I'm still shocked. Vinyl beat the Lunar Owls, just wowwwwwwwwwww. Oddly for me I had the dates all mixed up. I could have sworn that the playoffs started March 18th. So I was getting ready to bake some chocolate chip cookies, listening to speeches from Angie Stone's 🌷homegoing services, and looking to see if there were any Unsung episodes on EnVogue. I had been really wanting to see some documentaries about them and was talking to my husband about it. So then I guess he noticed that I wasn't talking about Basketball, and being that he surprised me with a Vinyl t-shirt the other week, he said "You know the Vinyl plays tonight." I was like, "What!? That's got to be a replay or some type of exhibition I didn't know about. The games don't come back on until the 18th." So well I ended up coming in 3rd quarter where the Rose and Lace were head to head, Angel Reese was on the bench in street clothes and I figured it was her wrist. There was a new girl and then Chelsea was being Chelsea. Absolutely phenomenal. ------------ I was not even expecting a half way close game with Vinyl vs Lunar Owls. Vinyl had just gotten blown out by the Rose so I didn't know where they were going. I expected a huge blowout and also expected the Lunar Owl to blow out whoever else made it to the finals against them.I actually was sweeping because I'm like it would be ridiculous for me to expect anything different than a blow out. I saw how they were keeping the game close and I was like well that is very good and notable, but the Lunar Owls are gonna break loose and go crazy and rack up points everywhere nonstop Even when Vinyl outperformed them in the 4th and the game stayed extremely close I still thought the Lunar Owls would take off and dominate, even if for the last few seconds. I didn't think this was possible...When Vinyl was leading 71 to 70 and whoever gets to 73 first wins, I ran down the hallway and told my husband "Whoever scores next wins." (Assuming Lunar Owls hit a 3).Then when we won I told my husband "Biggggggggggg upset. This feels like an NFL upset to me." lol I use NFL as an example because along with college football that's the other sport where the whole world (country) is tuned in. So Wow!On to the Finals. I kept telling my husband thank you so much for telling me the games were on, I would have died had I missed my faves take down the Lunar Owls live.

Small Victory: Congrats Angel Reese and Chicago Sky | 1 Relevance | 2 months ago | Faith Black | Zuri Art & Gardens
I like the New York Liberty; however, I was glad to see Angel Reese finally back. It has been an extremely depressing season with so many injuries. Plus, I hate whoever makes the schedules...it makes no sense. One day there will be no games, or maybe 1 game. The next day, the entire rest of the league is playing. And good luck trying to find a game. Just absolutely ridiculous. You will find one game while 4 other games are going on at the same time. Pathetic. So this is not Angel's first game back, it's definitely the first one I've been able to catch. I asked AI:august 21, the chicago sky and angel reese shockingly defeated the new york liberty, 91 to 85. Though chicago wont make the playoffs, write a cutesy blog posts about the game, statistics, angel reese's return, kamilla cordosa's amazing game, and theresa weatherspoon, t spoon embracing angel reese and ange reese's excitement to embrace theresa weatherspoon ** Cutie-Pies on the Court: Sky vs. Liberty (August 21, 2025)** 1. A Sweet(ish) Upset & Big Stats LoveOn Thursday, August 21, 2025, the Chicago Sky—already officially out of playoff contention—managed to pull a surprise on the reigning champs, the New York Liberty, with a 91–85 win at Barclays Center. Kamilla Cardoso went all-out, scoring 22 points and grabbing a career-high 16 rebounds. Meanwhile, Angel Reese made her return look amazing, delivering 21 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 assists—together, the duo dominated inside the paint. The Sky outscored New York 52 points in the paint to 26, outrebounded them 42 to 27, and got to the free-throw line a whopping 14 more times. Ariel Atkins sprinkled in 19 points (9 came in the fourth quarter), and Michaela Onyenwere added 13, giving the Sky some tasty offensive toppings. 2. Angel’s Return—Sparkling with ShineAngel’s comeback was absolutely heart-eye emoji worthy—she looked fresh, fierce, and fabulous. Believe it or not, she helped reclaim the Sky’s spark, turning a struggling squad into one that finished strong. Her double-double was a graceful reminder she’s a force to be reckoned with. 3. Kamilla Cardoso’s Superpower PerformanceCardoso was nothing short of a superhero inside the lane: 22 points, 16 rebounds, and even snagging 5 assists—she was like a Swiss Army knife but in uniform. On the boards, she was the Sky’s MVP (Most Valuable Pivot). Her presence inside was the kind of impact that makes you fist-pump and shout “YES!” 4. Stats N’ Silly Love 21 lead changes and 11 ties? Talk about a roller-coaster! The Sky went 50% from the field and scored 52 points in the paint—talk about getting cozy in the key. Meanwhile, the Liberty cooled off from deep: 10-of-20 in the first half… but just 3-of-17 (18%) after halftime. Ouch. 5. Liberty’s Boo-Boos (While Sweet, They Could’ve Been Sweeter)Despite 25 points from Jonquel Jones (including a career-high-tying five 3-pointers) and solid contributions from Sabrina Ionescu (16) and Natasha Cloud (14), the Liberty felt a little “meh” on effort, especially rebounding and physicality. Head coach Sandy Brondello was especially "disappointed" in the team’s lack of spark and rallying presence 6. T-Spoon & Angel’s Adorable Moment (There are some photos and videos out there) 💐💐 Wrap-Up: In Cute We Trust Even though the Sky are out of playoff dreams, this game was hands down a highlight—shining center magic, emotional return, and unforgettable hustle. Angel Reese and Camilla Cardoso delivered a masterclass in inside Basketball. The Liberty’s lack of intensity? Well, they’ll have to dust that off and rebound (pun intended) as the playoffs loom. Meanwhile, our mental storyboard of T-Spoon meeting Angel Reese is just too sweet not to cherish—it’s the kind of sports fairy tale beam friends bond over for seasons. 🏀🏀🏀🏀 My WNBA Replays: (Hey what a cute title lol) May 2024: WNBA Women Don't Owe Clark a Damn Thing November 2024: I Went Back to the WNBA (and left again)
🌹Jordan Chiles' Book Review: I'm That Girl | 1 Relevance | 7 months ago | Zuri | Healing in Progress
Jordan Chiles' newly released memoir, I’m That Girl: Living the Power of My Dreams, is a powerful testament to healing, growth, and self-discovery. This bestseller isn't just a memoir; it’s an inspiration for anyone who has ever faced injustices. Through her raw and honest narrative, Chiles recounts her experiences, from heartbreaking, life-altering trauma at extremely young ages to her rise as one of the most iconic athletes in the sport. But don’t expect some sugar-coated story of triumph; this book is real, gritty, and filled with the truths of Chiles’ journey to success. A particular highlight is her deconstruction of the notion that Black gymnasts’ "power" in their routines is solely about physical strength, a racist statement made by Valeri Liukin, the USA Gymnastics national team coordinator from 2016-2018. Liukin’s attempt to diminish Black gymnasts' skills by focusing on their "power" is an insult to the years of hard work, intelligence, discipline and talent it takes to be successful in gymnastics. Valeri Liukin and others such as Italian gymnast Carlotta Ferlito and her coach (I can't find his name), choose to repeat racist lies. Jordan Chiles', nor any other Black gymnasts, or Black person don't owe these types any explanation nor does any Black gymnast have anything to prove to those types, ever. But I'm still going to state the truth because these racist lies have ruled for centuries, and there is never enough forceful, unstoppable pushback. The truth is that the "power" isn’t just about being "strong" and "explosive" or whatever other simplified words they choose to use. The power that Black gymnasts have is about a complete mastery of the body—a combination of phenomenal coordination, mind-body control, spatial awareness, intelligence, and the countless hours spent perfecting skills. Black gymnasts are exceptional because of their training, intelligence, memory, family support systems, endless sacrifices, ongoing emotional growth, and belief in themselves. Black gymnasts don’t excel because they have a magical "physical characteristic" assigned to them by skin color. They excel because "The Power of their Dreams" fuel their efforts and their hearts drive them to achieve greatness they deserve. As Jordan Chiles states so clearly in her book, "Apparently it wasn’t that we were talented athletes who’d excelled in the sport, raising the bar and setting new standards for everyone else to keep up with." It’s a painful truth that many racist figures and fans in the sport of gymnastics still cling to this delusion of racial superiority. As has been the case for centuries, hateful people try to explain away Black people's success with racial stereotypes like "power vs. grace" or convoluted theories about the physical characteristics of Black people. This is pure nonsense, an insult to those who work day in and day out to perfect their craft. And let's not forget, race is not scientific. There is no "Black physique" that magically makes someone better at one sport over another. There is no formula that ties skin color to success in gymnastics, swimming, Basketball, or any other sport. The fact that they still get to speak their racist filth without repercussions is a glaring example of how racism is completely interwoven into the fabric of our so-called "civilized" societies. The problem isn't just the people who are openly racist. It’s also the so-called "good white people" who stay silent. Their silence allows these ignorant comments to persist. As Martin Luther King stated, the white liberal is dangerous to the safety of the Negro because white liberals (the nice white people who root for Black people) are still more dedicated to maintaining order based on racial hierarchy systems So every white person or other non-Black person with privilege in the gymnastics world who stood by silently and did not absolutely vehemently defend Jordan Chiles against racist parents, racist coaches, racist scoring, unfair treatment and did not vehemently outcast the people being racist and vehemently work towards practical solutions to make sure every Black child that even thinks about stepping foot in gymnastics, that every Black child should be protected using every resource available. How hard is it to simply kick racists out of facilities and if you're a coach who "supports and likes" Black gymnasts, speak the hell up to the powers that be. Do something, Make a change. White people sitting back silently is not the answer and they should still feel guilty for not doing enough to protect all children. It’s crucial to explicitly state that "grace" didn’t originate with the Valeri Liukin types and their delusions of superiority. "Grace" is complex, variable and existed long before whiteness and its weaponization. At the root, racism has nothing to do with the sport, body types, scoring systems, grace or power. Racism is rooted in hatred, insecurity, and fear of being outperformed. Racism in gymnastics is also amplified by systemic issues like over testing Black athletes for performance-enhancing drugs. The US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) has been rightfully criticized for disproportionately testing Black athletes, creating a toxic atmosphere where Black people's success is always questioned. Nothing is done about it, and the pattern continues, leaving Black athletes to navigate a system stacked against them. Nadia Comaneci-completely unprofessional, shameful behavior regarding the ludicrously unfathomable Paris 2024 Olympic travesty against Jordan. Infuriating! Amidst these injustices, I had to keep reminding myself that this is the same gorgeous young lady who is always smiling, dancing, cheering others on, celebrating and performing like a star. I'm so grateful that that level of passion, energy and pure joy is the image of Jordan that I'm most familiar with, and because yes it was painful for me to read about the horrors she has faced. At one point I was like, "When is she going to catch a break?"I said, I know it has to be somewhere because how could she go from experiencing the trauma she has to having the joyful persona she has everywhere she goes and in everything she does. She is a light! And I'm hoping that the rest of her amazing journey will be filled with halos, healing, recognition, justice and all those things she deserves!A bed of roses with butterflies
