I love the movie Dreamgirls (2006). And much respect to the original Dreamgirls as well.

I love these parts of my culture and history. ❤️🖤💚
This musical era that changed the world
🖤the lyrics, the rhythm
🖤the voices
🖤the girl groups: the gowns and glitter; ethereal femininity.
🖤male groups: commanding, healthy masculinity
🖤coordinated choreography, moving as one person

🖤and the wigs too! lol. I love it all when the storytelling emphasizes dignity rather than just drama

I know who I am, and I know what my culture and heritage is.
And while I no longer wish Hollywood to be something it was never capable of being; the few times it gets it right, I learned to make the biggest deal out of it

❤️🖤💚

I always love to see extremely beautiful and supremely talented women in the spotlight on the big stage, doing what they love and being respected and honored for it.
Doing what they can do, better than the rest of the general world.

Now with that description, am I talking about the WNBA women or the Dreamgirl women?

I'm so clever!! lol

🎤🏀
❤️🖤💚

So with the ongoing 'ray-cyst' takeover of the Internet and 'ray-cyst' abuse the WNBA women are facing, when I was watching a game Lisa Leslie (her brilliant self, always says comforting things the right way at the right time) but she and the other announcers said there will be a meeting on Tuesday, called by the WNBA players association.

So yeah, even with very little to no social media in my life; definitely staying out of comment sections, remember that only helps so much because the hatred is embedded into the entire society, entire world culture.

The broadcast mentioned about the coach that's going to be suspended for 1 game, and I'm just like, what in the world extra going on upon all this.

So basically, this storm has been brewing within me for years, and I'm all raged out.

So it's like I'm at the point of my healing progress where I realize, hey you know what? It's okay to cry about these things.
💔I miss when only me and other regular people watched the WNBA without any of this hate going on
💔I don't like men being all up in women's sports business like this either.
💔I've always wanted the respect, but I actually miss the days where men didn't care about women's sports or "girly" events like mermaids and gymnastics

❌Someone explained it well. Society used to think "sex sells" but then with the Internet, they discovered that rage sells.
❌So in no way are online women less toxic or anything like that, I'm just saying, when rage is the main thing that has attracted men into traditionally women's safe spaces, it just becomes extra levels of history, oppression and violence at play

This is where my natural fight mode comes in because of my past

🎤🏀
❤️🖤💚

Fighting reflex: It's natural.
And it's damn justified.

But it's definitely a mode that doesn't allow for any tears.

And tears are needed as part of this entire process.

Growing up, when I recall my physical fights and the tons of almost physical fights, I remember how I couldn't cry until after the situation was over.

After I'm in my place of safety, then my body can release its freeze, flight or fighting preparation and I can cry.

It's just like any animal will do for survival, try and survive a threat.

🎤🏀
❤️🖤💚

I've advanced enough in my healing and recovery journey to understand that online people are not a direct, physical threat to me
They just trigger my past, but they themselves, are not powerful, worthy, capable of being in my life.
They're just so numerous though!

So anyway, key thing: they are not a threat to my immediate safety

Thus:
It's okay to retreat to my safe space and just cry.

And I used to avoid crying over this type of online cruelty because it felt like I would be showing that these nobodies are actually important in my life

But no.
I now realize that the crying is needed for me.

Not them at all.

The tears are for me

This is where the tears will come from when I watch this lovely movie tonight.

🎤🏀
❤️🖤💚

I usually always cry during Jennifer Hudson's rendition of "And I am telling You"
Actually sometimes I'd be too stunned to cry

and also during the end when Jennifer/Effie White is singing to her daughter and her daughter is crying and Jamie Foxx looking like "Ohhh brother"

I just looooooooove the ending. Mother to daughter moment, beautiful scenery, in the midst of a storm. A lot going on

After just pulling through:
Look at Me: Little Miss Juneteenth

So I'm ready for this good cry!
It will be a healthy cry.
And much needed cry.

A Dream Deferred

So last night, I was feeling awesome! I made it about halfway through the movie...
I was enjoying every note, facial expressions, choreography, gowns...

But I have gastritis that flares up sometimes, and I was eating some grilled chicken which I thought would be safe. But, restaurants do use a lot of oils, seasoning etc and I took a chance and it didn't work out for me

🍒🍒How about I started getting sick right on the part where they are interviewing Jamie Foxx/Curtis about Deena/Beyonce being the cherry on the top
🍒He mentioned how she's the cherry, the ice cream, the scoop, something, he was naming food
🍒and it was sad to see how badly this hurt Effie White of course, that would hurt anyone. And Effie was learning to do okay singing backup

🍒Then I started going...."Ahhhhhhhhhhh. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Nooooooooooo. Please don't tell me." My stomach started gurgling! And twisting then I ended up in the bathroom and I 'stepped into the bad side' like the song in the movie says

It was bad. Knew I was not going to finish the movie
then
😵my cycle that I was hoping was gone since it's late, it started and I'm in perimenopause
😵with some major menopausal-related insomnia every now and then
🪥I was up all night...had a dental appointment (tuesday) for a crown and it's like

🪥I had to call and cancel it cause: No sleep, an hour drive can be dangerous, and how am I gonna sit still during the procedure when I'm cramping

Here's the thing, a gastritis flare up makes the menopausal cramps worse.

Alright, so I'm feeling better as far as the cramps go.
Moonflower saw me crawled into a ball and she asked "Why are you sitting in a ball position?"
And then she brought me the heating pad; and I've been better since then

***

Alright, so initially tried to watch Dreamgirls on Sunday.
I wanted a good cry and didn't get it the way I wanted.

I'm gonna wait until I'm fully back feeling great and restart the movie and hopefully I can get past the cherry part without any GI flare ups
🤣
