When I started this Black Christmas Movies that Sleigh-Black Christmas movie list in 2025: Not Naughty, Just Nice: Black Christmas Movies
I was fine with calling anything a Black Christmas movie if the lead romantic characters were Black.

💡But it's easy to realize there is a difference between a Black Christmas movie
and a Christmas movie that just happens to have Black leads
💡It's all in the writing, soundtracks, directing and other details

These are typically Lifetime or Hallmark movies
They are typically bland when it comes to soul but:

❤️I would have still loved these through my little girl eyes
💚simply because of the pretty Black woman romantic leads

Let's get to the list & then below, there's more information on how I approach race

🌲Aisle Be Home for Christmas (2022)

🌲The Christmas Hotel (2019)

🌲You Light Up My Christmas (2019)

Not Naughty, Just Nice: Black Christmas Movies

As time went on I realized that Black lead characters do not make a movie Black anymore, like I had initially felt it would.
Again, when this is all new, and having Black people in more than 1 or 2 Christmas movies is not something from my childhood, my 20's, my 30's or early 40's, lol.
So it takes me some time to notice patterns and how to go from there.

So I need to call these movies:
3)Multi-racial but with Black Leads
If it's on my list that means the Black leads brought some authentic soul to their roles that made me feel their Blackness, rather than them just being check marks for Hallmark or Lifetime to check off.
Be it their facial expression, body language, eye contact, tone of voice etc; these are "acting Black" details that come from within and it can't be taught or faked.
The "acting Black" is real.

It is annoying though, when there are 2 Black leads (the romantic Black woman and man) and everyone else in the little town is white and grew up with them, and somehow that's normal?
Naw. Not buying it.

If this is just one movie, ummm, let it slide. But if I see a pattern where the characters are only Black on paper but not anything authentic to the story...it's a turn off.
So it's taking me time to go back through movies and really make sure they belong on my nice list.

At first I was okay with calling a movie "Black" if it had Black leads but naw, that's not the case anymore.
Multiracial
