The rise of the Unrivaled Women's Basketball League has been a bright light in a storm of exhausting, racially charged narratives surrounding the WNBA. For the past year or so, the twisted media has downplayed and dismissed the brilliance of Black women in basketball—all while unprecedently exaggerating everything about Caitlin Clark, as if it was her life's calling to single-handedly save a sports league.
American history is built upon and riddled with this same exact type of dangerous pattern of manipulation that elevates one group over another—not based on achievements or merit, but on carefully constructed illusions of superiority.
The lies, erasure, the coded language—it was devastating and disrespectful on a very personal level.
In the works since 2023, by cofounders Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart, the Unrivaled Women's Basketball League has arrived right on time to help me enjoy women's basketball again.

Social media, or as I call it, sociopathic media, has strangled the enjoyment out of life, out of simply breathing! So certainly when it comes to any big events, performances, public figures-social media parasites never sleep and begin their unwarranted attacks before I can even get comfortable enough on my couch to open up my laptop.
(I'm kinda old school so I prefer actual computers over the phone lol)
Because I was just undone from the buildup of so many (sports-related) heartbreaking stories that involved women who look like me being dehumanized by this twisted society, at first I was like I am not going to watch Unrivaled since everything else I enjoyed kept being ruined. Women's college basketball, the WNBA, the Olympics....nothing is fun to watch anymore when people who look like me or continuously treated in entirely different ways than people of other races.
Well after several weeks into the league I am extremely grateful that I decided to watch Unrivaled! The key thing to my happiness and enjoyment of this league has been to, of course, stay off of social media!
The only thing I do, is briefly go by the players' IG pages so I am looking at information from their own eyes, from their own perspective and words.
I most definitely, stay out of the comments!
Looking at the amount of likes and comments, the league seems to be growing leaps and bounds!
👼🏾Unrivaled Women's Basketball League: Rules of Enjoyment🌷
🏀No podcasts
🏀No opinion articles
🏀No non-thinking "think pieces"
🏀No You Tube
🏀No other blogs (unless the blogger as my similar mindset)
What else is out there? So much crap.
🏀No forums
🏀No Instagram pages besides those of the athletes themselves
🏀No Facebook, Tik Tok, X mess
All I need is to look at everything from the eyes of the Unrivaled women themselves and my own eyes, and stay out of the comments. So that's why I have enjoyed this league so much. I love it.
I have seen every game except for 2 games when I had a long drive to visit someone. I saw every single match up of the One-On-One Tournament. It was just as tense as watching complete teams play.
Dear NBA
Where have you been?
All those years I watched back in the day, and there has never been this level of creative structure in putting together an entire One-on-One Tournament plus any creativity regarding the offseason of the NBA.
And NBA players and ex-NBA players had the nerve to chastise the Black WNBA women for not "behaving" in the "proper manner" towards whiteness. What a disgrace these men are.
Anyway, while the Unrivaled League women are definitely exciting, fiery, talented, funny, and have a great sisterhood going on, my high hopes are because:
🏀it is a league created by 2 of the players,
🏀each of the players have equity in the league,
🏀their salaries are strong (over 200k)
🏀they have a voice regarding the way the league is operating.
🏀Cocoa Gauff is one of the investors 🌷🌷
A league with no ultra millionaires and billionaires buying, branding, trading and owning you?
That level of autonomy and respect is most definitely unprecedented, unmatched and Unrivaled for Black women!
