Let's see how it goes ((I do not know why this gap is here and I can't fix it right now))
WNBA All-Star Game 2025: My Thoughts on Watching This Year
Earlier this year as my mental health and healing regarding race started to improve drastically, (after doing lots and lots of work), I was debating whether I should give the WNBA a try, after all I love the players-the amazing, interesting Black women, I swear they need their own reality show. And of course Unrivaled was such a joy for me because it doesn't have the history and hateful "fans" that have ruined the WNBA.
Why I Took a Break from the WNBA
Actually also, the WNBA is ruining the WNBA by not protecting its players from hate and abuse. Not a very well run business that cares about its players-I noticed this with the Brittney Griner situation. I was like dang this league doesn't give a damn about her, who was my favorite player at the time. That's when I started to pull back...
(I'm not saying that any sports institution cares about its players. However, the Brittney Griner situation was a very different situation from typical sports-related issues. The same thing can be said for the entire circus centered around Clark. None of this has been truly related to basketball itself, but has definitely been a result of the long, terrible history in this nation)
How can abusive so-called fans have more power over the players? Chile, I'm too through.Β
WNBA All-Star Game 2025
While I want to protect my health, I can't let the negativity of this world stop me from watching everything I enjoy. Damn, not much left as it is.Β
So I will watch the All-Star game after really thinking about it for a few weeks. I figured hey, I can't tolerate the full NBA season however, I watched the playoffs and it went decent for the most part. The less I knew about the players and teams, the more I enjoyed it. I went in completely blind especially since I hadn't watched the NBA in many years. I was only familiar with the oldies like Lebron, Steph, Durant etc. Now I know about Tyrese, lol.
As time went on I started to learn more and more about the teams and players, naturally that was gonna happen just from the commentators and plus I have a slight obsession with post game interviews. I don't know where this obsession came from lol, but I really love post game interviews! LOL. Let me be clear, I hate the media and I hate them forcing players to talk after a loss, but I'm talking about how I love hearing the players' views, demeanors, energy, tone of voice etc, I guess it's some type of emotional thing I have towards the players in those moments, but that's another topic.
The Less Social Media-The Best
For the beginning of the 2025 NBA playoffs, I did great staying off the Internet/social media.
But, after that once-in-a-lifetime Indiana vs New York clutch choke shot by Tyrese Haliburton, I was too amazed and ventured into some reddit forums, but thankfully they were very well-moderated and not hateful. The fans were unhinged for sure, how can you not be-lol, but as for the hatred that has ran me off social media and into therapy-I didn't see those type of posts in the Knicks and Pacers reddit pages, especially since I was just focused on 1 specific game.Β
The worse thing was reading other people complain about what the hate they've read, and the hate that's out there from the toxic sports analysts and authors, I HATE THEM!!! Yeah, one is the screaming idiot with the initials SAS...I abhor him & some others.
So anyway, though as time went on and reading the forums, the NBA was becoming so exhausting it still went good enough for me to watch the WNBA All- Stars and see where to go from there. These are my girls after all, lol.Β
The Officiating Problem in the WNBA and NBA
One example regarding NBA exhaustion, it's like, on my own I rarely can tell what's a foul and what's not a foul. So in the forums people would be pointing how how horrendous the calls are, and then they'll have screenshots and replays lol, and then break the plays down on a technical level and then I'm like well dang...the referees are horrible! Ugh. It makes it impossible to enjoy the games.
It's one thing that there will always be human eye error of course, but after reading the forums I agree that the officiating is unprofessional and something needs to be done regarding both the NBA and WNBA. During the WNBA & even during Unrivaled, even the commentators were criticizing the calls. So I was like "They need to get good referees like the NBA."
Then ooops, watched the NBA and see it's the same.
As a huge fan in the 90's...what happened? It's enough that the technical aspect of the game itself has decreased so much, now add in player morale, toxic fandom and inconsistent officiating. Sheesh! And that toxic fandom = all about the terrible history of this nation. That's all I'll say
Alright so here is where I stand: no WNBA regular season for me. But I will watch the relaxing WNBA All-Stars and some of the high-stakes post season games.
