I clicked on a YouTube video about how "Sinners" movie staff chose to research and respectfully represent Hoodoo, rather than stick with the same old tired Hollywood and society's negative portrayal regarding traditional African spirituality.Β
Not that I'm in comment sections or social media a lot these terrible days, but it was elating to see someone type that they are African and that we Black Americans are so creative.
This is like the very first time in all my life that I can recall someone of another group, grouping Black Americans together in a positive manner and actually saying something positive about us.Β
I typed back, thank you so much and that this is one of the sweetest things I've ever read. Another Black American chimed in with similar sentiments as mine. Someone else said, "All melanated people are creative." 🙄🙄
And I thought about saying...can just for once in the entire history of the modern world can Black Americans have something nice said about us and only us? Because we are the only group that gets pounded on relentlessly, by everyone worldwide. (And it is internal, in-group beating as well).
But I was like, naw whatever, no negativity, let me just revel in the glow of the primary comment from the African lady who loved Sinners and said Black Americans are so creative.
And how about I don't even care to go and find the comment section and paste it here; probably filled with negativity by now. But anyway, thankfully I got in on the comments early and got to enjoy that beautiful comment
