It was from 2017 and it was a nice commercial. Much needed to see some smiles, dancing, and normalcy in my race on TV.
I can't remember what show, most likely just some old reruns from the better days, is what I was watching on BET back then when Kenrick Lamar's song was out. Oh yeah, The New Edition movie and all their spinoffs. So this was 2017 according to search engines
So they had put together a commercial made of some empowering and funny and cool Black American cultural vibes and played it to Kendrick's "We Gone Be Alright"
And I remember during the 20 second or so commercial, I would literally feel like it was true, that we as a race were gonna be alright.
Well I was wrong
And I was wrong not because of who wins elections or anything like that.
I was wrong because of what's in people's hearts. Back then, I thought that people like me and my family, people who believe in equality, fairness, respect and dignity that goes beyond borders, laws, statistics and any other fake, toxic crap that people use as excuses to justify their fears and hatred.
Either you have respect for life, or you don't. No explanations nor elections needed.

We ain't gone be alright. Nor is any other group.
Halo
But, the focus is my personal life now
I have built boundaries.
Even regarding my own race and justice. Justice and equality are as important as air, but I have to have boundaries.
I have boundaries now. And I work to keep those boundaries strong.
And that's the only way I get to be alright
