Tyler Perry didn't used to be this way, but the type of work he has been putting out the last 15 years or so, and that's actually a long time, has been horrific for too many historical reasons that are truthful and well-researched and can be broken down and proven but I'm absolutely not going into all that because that is not the purpose of this blog.

Same thing with the work of Lee Daniels and all of the other most popular Black directors. They are "allowed" by the powers-that-be, to be popular because they continue to put out negative images, dialogue, storylines and narratives that are used to portray 1 group a certain way.
Most people of all aces are simple-minded so they go: "Since said group is dysfunctional then said group deserves their discrimination, oppression, genocide and whatever comes their way."

This "they deserve it" is why this country and world, is in the self-destruct phase it's in now.

Anyway so he has this entire thing now called Tyler Perry BET Drama or some crap, but anyway they put together a long preview of all of his shows. You know, just seeing the promotional poster and certainly seeing the previews would normally send me into a rage where I would want to choke everyone involved in those shows. (I learned in therapy that my extreme reaction is from my own trauma)

It's not just Tyler, it's all of them from Power to Empire to any of them! I don't even want to name them because that's not beneficial to my health.
I'm focusing on Tyler Perry here because he's the most prominent, has put out the most work, made the most money and so on but he's by far not the only guilty party with these atrocities.

Only exceptions I can think of: Jordan Peele and Ryan Cooglar

I know that Tyler Perry's old work was negative as well, I just couldn't really tell back then. I was just glad to see Black people on screen and plus it was a very long time ago and it just took me some time to realize how his portrayal of Black people/characters was so demoralizing, because hey, I did find Madea funny and easy to relate to. But man, putting the antics of Madea aside and just seeing what he writes for the other characters and it's like Oh My God, what!?

There's no excuse to have so many badly written characters with no depth, no motives, no history, no humanity...just evil and the other common characteristic that he loves to pair evil with: Black.

He drew some of us in by using Madea. Clever move. But that was short-lived for me and I haven't watched any of his work in over 15 years and that's a very rough estimate so I will need to double check, if I cared enough. It's been a long time though. I refuse to even watch Six Triple Eight. I refuse to watch any previews of his shows, I scroll past any social media posts talking about him and the other Black directors like him.

So, my abhorrence with those shows like Snowfall, rebooted Fresh Prince and so many to name, but naming the shows doesn't help me feel better so I just named a few. Anyway, it is not a matter of personal preference. It is not a matter of style and taste or anything like that. My abhorrence is because these shows are 100% rooted in very well-planned out ideologies, messages, images, belief systems centered around the dehumanization and demonization of a specific group of people.

And it has always worked, brilliantly. (As things stand now in this country, more and more groups are being demonized based on their job titles, party lines, immigration status and so on). But who did it start with? So everything happening now comes down to race, Blackness to be exact.

🟢🟢🟢🟢🟢🟢🟢🟢🟢🟢

So now what works for me, is just centering and focusing on myself and what being Black means to me. That's on other people if they want to be modern day Minstrel performers; hey, they are getting paid and we know, a dollar somehow makes everything acceptable for most people.

But as for me, my health and healing, I have recently been so relieved that when previews of that crap come across my TV, TV that I barely watch for this reason, but when it comes across my TV I have been able to keep my peace.

If this is what they think of being Black, if that is what their experiences have been and that's what they choose to define their lives by: chaos, violence, drama and trauma, then that's between them, their families, their ancestors and whatever god they should be angry with for creating them.

That type of violence and filth is not how my life is defined. Just because they are Black like me doesn't mean we are the same, or even similar, and they don't represent me. Society socializes us to not think of ourselves as individuals and humans, but as simply Black. And it's the opposite for other races, they have the luxury of thinking of themselves as individuals, and part of humanity rather than just part of a race. So they never ever feel shame, guilt, hurt or pain from their race's decisions and business...but they absolutely should feel something.

Again, that's why this country is countrying right now...

Shifting my mindset has been a journey, using countless tools and techniques—too detailed to share online. I'm beyond relieved that I'm learning to protect my peace.

My life is not defined by my Blackness, and my Blackness isn’t defined by what weirdos in Hollywood produces.
Growing up, I remember watching older Black shows and noticed they would use the word "soul" a lot. In an empowering, positive, inspirational manner that reflected their view of not just being Black, but being themselves.

That’s my focus.

SOUL.

So I have earned myself a halo. And it has taken years to reach this place

I do not care about stereotypes, in the sense of caring what other races think about Black people. Everything is a damn stereotype when it comes to Blackness. What I care about is when people desire to see Black bodies harmed and thus they use "entertainment" to execute their desires to see Black people as dysfunctional, hurt, traumatized, broken, hateful, violent dehumanized things for mass consumption. This is exploitation and degradation. It's beyond stereotypes, which again, I don't care if other races look at a negative show and believe negative things about Black people. Eff people like that.

This is about dangerous disrespect of Black people, in which, it aids in having other Black people internalize these dehumanizing images and it causes Black people to hate Black people more. That's my long way of saying, I don't give a damn about whites and other races believing stereotypes about Black people. That's an entirely different issue and eff their whole existence.

Like Mr. Otis on that episode of the Jefferson's said, "We spend so much time trying to prove them wrong, by saying they were right in the first place."
