So about 2 weeks, I was detangling and combing Moonflower's hair after she washed it. This takes me a good 2 hours, so we usually talk and then I also would look at what she's watching on her computer screen or TV. She was watching the original, animated version of How to Train Your Dragon (2010). I had never seen it before, but the title has always intrigued me. Plus, the previews for the live-action were out during this time. So when I saw her watching the animated version, and I thought to myself "Oh, I thought a saw a real boy on the commercials, but I guess my mind thought he was real but it was really a cartoon."

Then Moonflower was like, "They've made a live action version." Then I was finally like, oh my goodness! I thought I saw a real boy in the previews but anyway...that's just how my mind is all over the place sometimes so anyway

Toothless the Dragon Looks Like a Black Cat

I just kept watching and started to get more and more into. I noticed how Toothless looked so much like our cat Luna: Black with green eyes. 💚💚💚
The shade of green, the pupils transitioning from round to slit & narrow, then the overall facial expressions, sounds, playfulness and even moodiness-they nailed it! Watching Toothless felt like I was watching my cat Luna! Lol. Too too cute.

I fell in love with Toothless! 💚🐲💚🐲Those eyes, my heart.

Family Movie Time: How to Train Your Dragon 2

So then the next day we had a family movie day with dad, and we watched Part 2 that was made in 2014. I found it more exciting than Part 1; however, in part 1 I have to admit I was so shocked that the big dragon at the end could fly! Wooooh like what? That girl wasn't playing lol.

I'm sure Part 2 was meant to be more intense; it was really good and I do need to rewatch. Without spoiling, there was a scene where Toothless didn't try to hurt someone, but he did, and then he got fussed at and ran away. Baby, I cried!!! Like, how you gonna be fussing at my Toothless!! Sit down somewhere and don't fuss at that precious baby.

Great movie though, all because of Toothless. The human characters are cool but my emotional connection lies solely with Toothless because he looks like my black cat 🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛

Live Action vs Animated: Toothless in the 2025 Movie

So then we went to an early screening of the movie. It was step-by-step replay of the animated version, which is what I expected because of The Little Mermaid. Not gonna lie because I used to be like, "What in the world is live action?" When all the live action stuff started to become a thing, I wasn't sure if the story lines changed or what.

Moonflower said she enjoyed the animated version better.

The graphics were great. The big thing for me as that Toothless' eyes were too green in comparison to the perfect shade of green in the animated version. When Toothless was upset, I still found myself saying, "My sweet baby." Lol.
I was really hoping to feel more like I was watching my green-eyes black cat on the big screen, but I'm so thankful that the animated version had his eye color on point like a real cat...dragon. 🐈‍⬛🐲💚
