Black Christmas Movies that Sleigh
Not naughty, just nice: my list of my favorite Black Christmas movies up until 2025. So, it wasn't until just a few years ago that there were even any options to choose from. Having more than 1 Black Christmas movie to choose from, is a new thing.
And I'm making the absolute most of it. So what I'm doing is rewatching any of the ones I liked in the past so that I can list them here!
And I'm cautiously watching any new ones. Some Christmas movies of course make my naughty list, but there's no need to list them.
Why would I want to spend energy writing about movies I didn't like anyway?ย
There's enough Internet for that, but not here.
Some of these are romantic comedies, but some are dramas that deal with heavy topics. However, if my heart can handle it and the joy outweighs everything, then it's okay with me.
Healing:
A part of my healing journey is reminding myself this: just because I say "Black" doesn't mean anything except I am Black and I like Christmas movies featuring predominately Black cast or even a multiracial cast. None of this means that I care anything about what social media has to say. I'm not recommending anything based on race, I'm not speaking for Black people, I'm not worrying about history lessons, other folks trauma, podcasts blah blah blah.
If I come across a racial stereotype or anything that doesn't sit well with my spirit, I turn it off.ย
It's important to get back to enjoying what I enjoy, without all the damn noise, ummm, "opinions" of people on social media.
Anyway, let me shut up before I get too angry.ย
The only thing "Black Christmas movies" means is that I'm Black! Lol. And I'm watching Christmas movies that star people who look like me.
Lol! And this is all just for me, myself and I!
I was in too fragile of a mental state last year and wasn't strong enough to watch any Christmas movies, even the ones I had seen before and knew they were safe for me. When you are too fragile, you can't even do your normal activities.
However, I am healing, got my halo and so here I am!ย
I am for warm, uplifting, wholesome family-friendly Christmas movies featuring beautiful Black people, extravagant Christmas decorations, Christmas bells and background music, fairytale Christmas backdrops and a Christmas-related plot that is easy on my heart.

December 31, UPDATE:
After watching so many in a row, I started to notice some patterns and thus I need to make my list more distinct to reflect the wide variety of themes that extend beyond just "Black Christmas movies."
So here are the categories that I will put each movie into:
1)100% Child-Friendly
2)The Best Man Group (meaning, the Best Man Holiday is for mature audiences based on the language, sexuality, death etc).ย
So many of these Christmas movies deal with death. It's fine if I'm watching randomly, but watching so many back to back, I really got tired of the "family member died near Christmas and now the family has to learn to love Christmas again."
I will point out the movies; and they remain on my list because they're done with sensitivity and respect, and not done with shock value. However, I still have to point those out because it's absolutely triggering. I need to know which movies to avoid myself, lol, depending on what may be going on in my life.
I'm so grateful that there's a good amount that do not deal with death.
And finally,
As time went on I realized that Black lead characters do not make a movie Black anymore, like I had initially felt. Again, when this is all new, and having Black people in Christmas movies is not something from my childhood, 20's, 30's or early 40's, lol.
So it takes me some time to notice patterns and how to go from there.
So I need to call these movies:
3)Multi-racial but with Black Leads
If it's on my list that means the Black leads brought some authentic soul to their roles that made me feel their Blackness, rather than them just being check marks for Hallmark or Lifetime to check off.
Be it their facial expression, body language, eye contact, tone of voice etc; these are "acting Black" details that come from within and it can't be taught.
It is annoying though, when there are 2 Black leads (the romantic Black woman and man) and everyone else in the little town is white and grew up with them, and somehow that's normal?
Naw. Not buying it.
One movie, ummm, let it slide. But if I see a pattern where the characters are only Black on paper but not anything authentic to the story...it's a turn off.
So it's taking me time to go back through movies and really make sure they belong on my nice list.
At first I was okay with calling a movie "Black" if it had Black leads but naw, that's not the case anymore.ย
